Cougars Weekend Recap Nov 4

It was a busy weekend for the Cougars as women's hockey and men's volleyball bring home a pair of wins.

Assiniboine's volleyball teams travelled to Winnipeg to face the Red River Rebels on Friday.

THe women's team fell in five sets to the Rebels (25-20, 14-25, 25-21, 20-25, 10-15). Paige Donald led the Cougars attack with 12 kills and Blaire De La mare and Bryanna Sutlic chipped in with 9 kills each.

The men's team followed with a 3-0 sweep of the Rebels (25-21, 25-20, 25-22). Will Hatherly had 10 kills and Paycen Warkentin added six for the win.

On Saturdy the women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to the Rebels (25-20, 12-25, 25-16, 25-18). Paige Donald had 9 kills while Jessi Coulter had 6.

The men completed the weekend sweep with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 28-26) win against the Rebels. Will Hatherly had 20 kills and Paycen Warkentin had 10.

Cougar women's hockey hosted their first league matches of the season against the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. The Cougars won Saturday thanks to a hat trick by Simone Turner-Cummer and a goal by Samantha Christensen. Alyssa Alderson had two assists and Marley Quesnel picked up the win in net as the Cougars outshot the Blugolds 46-14.

Women's hockey played the Blugolds again Sunday, winning the game 4-1. Alyssa Alderson, Rachel Charles, Jasmin Denby and Samantha Christensen scored for the Cougars.

Women's hockey host their home tournament this weekend, November 9, 10, 11. Opening night is Friday against the second ranked (West) Minot State University Beavers at the Sportsplex at 6:00 PM

Volleyball teams host thier first league games at Assiniboine Gym (Victoria Ave East) against the St. Boniface Les Rouges Friday at 6:00 PM (women) and 7:30 PM (men).
