Dog houses donated in Dauphin

Carpentry camp in Dauphin came with a side of charity, as student donated four completed doghouses to the Parkland Humane Society last week.

Students in the nine-day carpentry camp at ACC's Parkland campus tackled several projects as they learned some carpentry basics, including safety, project planning and tool use.

After the two weeks (minus the August long weekend) of learning the woodshops of the Parkland Campus in Dauphin, the camp wrapped up last Friday with a barbecue for the students and a special donation to the Parkland Humane Society.

As a final project, the 12 students teamed up to build four large dog houses for the humane society, handing them over with a small ceremony.

The Parkland carpentry camp was one of two run this summer through Assiniboine Community College. There was also one in Brandon, hosted at the North Hill Campus. They were both free for teenagers from 14–16 years of age, fundeded by Apprenticeship Manitoba through the Tools for Tomorrow program.
