Sometimes, the path to college or a new career requires just one more step. Maybe you already have your high school diploma but need higher grades in certain subjects. Or perhaps the program you want to enter requires specific courses you didn’t take before. That’s where the Centre for Adult Learning (CAL) at Assiniboine can help.

Our Additional Credit and Upgrading program is designed for adults who want to strengthen their academic foundation, improve their marks, or complete the prerequisites required for college, university or workplace training. This program is also a great option for those looking to refresh skills and boost confidence before taking on new challenges.

Affordable Learning Opportunities
Students in the Additional Credit and Upgrading program can take up to four courses tuition-free. While there are small course and Students’ Association fees for each class, you won’t be responsible for buying textbooks—removing one of the biggest barriers to returning to school. Depending on the course, there may be additional tools or supplies required, but overall, this program makes upgrading your education both accessible and affordable.

Flexible Options That Work for You
We understand that upgrading is often something you’re doing alongside work, family, and other responsibilities. That’s why CAL offers three different ways to complete courses—in-person, hub mode (online learning from home or another campus), or independent study (distance).

If you choose independent study, you can register anytime and work at your own pace, with up to 12 months to finish each course. For in-person and hub mode classes, terms begin every September and January, with both day and evening courses available to fit your schedule. No matter how you prefer to learn, we’ve made it easier for you to get the credits you need without putting the rest of your life on hold.

Two Convenient Locations
You can access CAL programs at two physical campuses:

  • Adult Learning Centre – Brandon, located at Assiniboine’s Victoria Avenue East campus
  • Adult Learning Centre – Parkland, located at our Dauphin campus

Support Every Step of the Way
Upgrading can feel like a big leap, but you won’t be navigating it alone. Our student success advisors are here to guide you, answer your questions, and help plan your next steps.

Take the Next Step Toward Your Future
Upgrading isn’t just about filling in gaps—it’s about unlocking opportunities. With CAL’s Additional Credit and Upgrading program, you can take those final steps toward college or career goals with confidence, knowing you have the flexibility, affordability and support to succeed.
