Evening celebrates achievements of students, athletes

Students at ACC were treated to a night of recognition at the annual Student Achievement Celebration dinner held this past Thursday evening at the Keystone Centre.

“This event was created to be a platform where our students can be applauded for their efforts, allowing them to celebrate their accomplishments in front of family members and fellow students,” said ACC’s Dean of Students Michael Cameron.

Throughout the evening, 51 awards were presented to current students.

The event recognizes students who embody the unparalleled student experience offered at ACC. Students are celebrated in the areas of athletics, student life and academic performance.

“The college experience is enriched when a student looks beyond the classroom and gets involved in activities; whether it be on an athletic team, volunteering or as a student body representative,” said Cameron.

Twenty-four students received ‘One to Watch’ awards. Faculty members select these recipients based on a set of criteria including academic merit, leadership, contributions to student life, community involvement and volunteerism.

Twenty-four students were recognized with athletic awards, including Male Athlete of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year.

Three students and an instructor each received awards from the Students’ Association. The Instructor Excellence Award was presented to Brian Cox, a faculty member in the college’s School of Business, Agriculture & Environment.

This is the third year in a row that ACC has hosted the event.
