Free documentary camp invites young aspiring filmmakers

Budding filmmakers will have a unique opportunity this summer to learn from some of the best while creating documentaries that will be watched across the province.

ACC s partnering with MTS TV Stories from Home and MTS Future First to host a documentary production camp at its Victoria Avenue East Campus in Brandon.

MTS Future First Doc Experience is a free camp running July 13 – 17 that welcomes youth between the ages of 15 to 24 for an intensive weeklong experience designed to introduce the art of documentary filmmaking.

Two-time Gemini Award winner and CBC DocZone producer and director Andy Blicq will lead the experience. Staff from MTS TV Stories from Home and ACC will also be involved, providing instruction and direction as they work alongside participant

Participants will be producing short documentaries under the theme of volunteerism. Aspiring filmmakers will work together throughout the project, all the way from concept development and storyboarding to filming to editing the final piece.

The finished films will premiere in September at the Evans Theatre at Brandon University. Following that, each film will be broadcast on MTS TV.
