Important milestones achieved by grads of ACC’s Adult Collegiate

Forty-one students from Assiniboine Community College’s Adult Collegiate will be receiving their mature high school diplomas at a ceremony tomorrow afternoon.

This year’s valedictorian, Whitney Borys, is graduating from the Integrated Comprehensive Health Care Aide (CHCA) program, meaning she’s earned both her Mature High School Diploma in addition to a CHCA certificate.

“It meant everything to me to complete my grade 12,” said Borys. “I have two little ones who look up to me and depend on me so I wanted to make sure I can give them the best future I possibly could, not only by bettering my education but it also shows them the importance of education and that anything is possible if you put your mind to it!”

“The staff at the Adult Collegiate gave me support with an extra ear and shoulder to lean on if needed as well as courage,” she added. “They showed me that school could actually be fun and a teacher can make all the difference in your learning!”

Seventeen students will graduate with honours, meaning they have achieved a cumulative average of at least 80 per cent in courses completed at the Collegiate.

Awards will be given to a number of students for excellence and achievement. Two entrance scholarships will be presented to graduates continuing their post-secondary education at ACC. There are eight Students’ Association awards being presented to both day and evening program graduates. There will be one recipient for the Integrated CHCA Program Students’ Association Award. Other awards include the Academic Excellence Award, Westman Communication’s Award of Excellence Scholarship and two UFCW Scholarships.

The graduation ceremony takes place tomorrow (beginning at 1:30 p.m.) at the McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church in Brandon.

Earlier this month, ACC held its annual graduation ceremony in Brandon with more than 900 graduating students receiving diplomas, certificates and apprenticeship certification.
