Maxwell joins Cougars as Women's Volleyball Head Coach 2017-18

Jeff Maxwell will be stepping in to coach the Cougar women's volleyball team for the 2016-17 season.

Maxwell joins Cougars as Women’s Volleyball Head Coach

BRANDON, MB (Feb 16, 2017) — Assiniboine Community College is proud to announce that Jeff Maxwell will be coaching the women’s volleyball team for the 2017-18 season.

Maxwell has been a teacher at Elton Collegiate for almost two decades. At Elton Collegiate, he coached girls and boys varsity teams in volleyball, basketball and track and field. During that time, Maxwell led the girls varsity volleyball team to five provincial championships and the boys’ varsity volleyball team to two provincial championships.

He is passionate about the sport of volleyball and initiated a club program, Big Bear Volleyball Club, in 2006 that lasted for 10 years. Maxwell has participated on volleyball all-star selection committees and is a long standing member of the Manitoba High School Athletic Association’s (MHSAA) zone 7 committee.

“Maxwell is very connected with volleyball in Manitoba,” said Beth Clark, Manager of Athletics and former Cougars women’s volleyball coach. “He has a long term vision for the program and has had success in the past. He will do a great job bringing his passion and experience to the next level of sport with the Cougars.”

Clark coached the women’s volleyball teams for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. With a solid foundation developed for Cougars volleyball, Clark will step back from coaching to continue administering all of the college’s sports teams.

“I believe I have run a successful high school program over the last 18 years and was looking for an opportunity to see if my coaching philosophy could be just as successful at the next level,” said Maxwell. ACC has shown that developing a quality athletic programs is a priority, I hope to help this program continue to develop great athletes, students, and people through sport.”

Maxwell has experience with athletic administration and long term planning for sport. He developed an athletic mission statement and school sport philosophy for Elton Collegiate. He was named Manitoba High School Coach of the Year in 2015 and Manitoba Volleyball Association AA coach of the year in 2003, and Manitoba High School Athletics Jostens Volunteer Award in 2003.

About ACC Athletics

Cougars teams in men’s and women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, and futsal (a variation of indoor soccer) compete in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC). The women’s hockey team are playing their first year in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) in 2016-17.
