Pearce To Join Cougars On Ice

BRANDON, Man. (April 4, 2023) — Mya Pearce will play for the Cougars women’s hockey team next season.

Pearce, from Manitou, Manitoba, played for the AAA U18 Pembina Valley Hawks. She is in her final semester at Nellie McClung Collegiate.

The 5’2 forward started playing the game as a toddler and has loved the game ever since. Pearce was an assistant captain for the last two seasons with the Hawks, accruing eleven goals and seventeen assists this season, and was the top scorer for the Hawks in her 2019-20 season. In the 2021-22 season, her passion and dedication shined through as Pearce received the Hawks Coaches Award.

“My strong play making ability and high hockey IQ and my dedication to the team will be the strongest abilities I bring to the team,” said Pearce. “I’m looking forward to meeting new people and being able to travel and be competitive with every team.”

Pearce was the female athlete of the year from grade seven through to grade eleven, with this year yet to be determined. She was selected for Hockey Manitoba’s Top 40 camp and won a provincial title playing U15 AAA the same season and reaching 100 points.

“Mya brings a great work ethic to the Cougars,” said Cougars head coach Tony Bertone. “She causes a lot of turnovers and has an ability to score and find her teammates with crisp passes.”

Pearce has remained an honour roll student through high school. She is interested in working with children and will be taking the college’s Early Childhood Education program in the fall.
