Platt & Blight Commit to Cougars Hockey

Cougar women's hockey add Brooklyn Platt and Lauren Blight to the 2017-18 roster

BRANDON, MB (May 29, 17) — The Cougar women’s hockey team continues to add competitive AAA Midget players to the 2017-18 roster. The team has received commitment from Brooklyn Platt of Carman, Manitoba and Lauren Blight of Oakville, Manitoba.

Brooklyn Platt just finished her season with the Pembina Valley Hawks AAA Female team. She was an integral part of the team’s MFMHL (Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League) championship this season. She accumulated 62 points and finished top 10 in scoring at the 2017 Esso Cup Nationals. She won a provincial title as a bantam in 2012-13 and 2013-14 and was named to the all-star team in 2013-14.

“Brooklyn is a smart player that recognizes plays on the ice quickly and reacts well in all situations,” says head coach Terry Arksey. “She is a playmaker and will be a huge contributor for our offensive lineup.”

Platt wants to pursue a career in counselling and will start her post-secondary education in the college’s Social Service Worker program. Platt also enjoys playing golf, baseball and soccer.

Lauren Blight played in the MFMHL this season with the Central Plains Capitals. She is a strong defender in all areas of the ice, skates well, and is not afraid to play along the wall, in front of the net or any tough area on ice. Blight is a team player, accepting her role and working hard, shift in and shift out.

“Lauren has a contagious work ethic,” says Arksey. “I look forward to her leadership on and off the ice next year.”

Blight will be taking the college’s Agribusiness program in the fall with the intention of pursuing a career in the agricultural industry.
