Assiniboine College recognized the achievements of fifteen Public Safety students at their annual Final Inspection Ceremony held at the college on Friday. The event marked a significant milestone in their training, with students now moving on to begin careers in policing, justice, corrections, and other public safety roles.

"My sincere congratulations to the students from Assiniboine College’s Public Safety program. Your dedication to serving the public and protecting Manitobans is truly admirable, and I’m confident that you will play a vital role in strengthening the safety and well-being of our province." said Matt Wiebe, Minister of Justice for the Province of Manitoba.

Today’s ceremony marks the 21st for the college’s Public Safety program and continues Assiniboine’s commitment to being on the leading edge of public safety training for communities across the province.

"Assiniboine College is a provincial leader in public safety training, and we are proud to celebrate the achievements of these students. Their success reflects the high-calibre instruction offered through the Manitoba Public Safety Institute here at Assiniboine. We are confident that these students are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to their chosen roles in public safety." said Mark Frison, President, Assiniboine College.

Students graduating from the program also highlight the ongoing efforts by the Manitoba Public Safety Institute to expand and diversify the partner agencies working with Assiniboine. In the past year, the college has delivered specialized training for several groups, including the City of Brandon and the Winnipeg Community Safety Team, First Nations Safety Officer training, as well as providing the police training for the Manitoba First Nations Police Service.

Among the students was Fabian Toews of Niverville, Manitoba, who has been hired by Brandon Police Service and will complete his Phase B training in the coming weeks before being assigned a platoon.

"The experience (here at Assiniboine) has been excellent. It genuinely felt like being part of a police academy, particularly after being hired to join Brandon Police Service while continuing to study. The environment Assiniboine has offered is a structured, academy-style learning experience—apart from not actually living on-site. Overall, it has been incredibly rewarding."

Toews is one of 15 students graduating from the program, a moment that continues to highlight the program’s success. 14 of 15 students from Class 21 are either already hired or actively competing for positions with police services and public safety agencies across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. This achievement underscores Assiniboine’s strong partnerships and its ongoing commitment to enhancing public safety across the Prairies and beyond.
