Program Spotlight: Comprehensive Health Care Aide (CHCA)

Now, perhaps more than ever, our world needs skilled health care providers, those willing and able to provide care, compassion and support to individuals when they need it most. If you’re looking for a rewarding career, one that is challenging, diverse and integral to our medical system, consider becoming a health care aide.

Be job ready within six months. Assiniboine’s Comprehensive Health Care Aide (CHCA) certificate program prepares you for a variety of health care settings, including acute care, mental health, longterm care, and community. You’ll earn a higher hourly starting wage than someone without certification and gain advanced standing and consideration for upcoming positions.

But health care is more than just a job: it’s a calling. It’s wanting to get up each day to help protect and care for our communities’ most vulnerable. It’s wanting to help support a whole person, both their physical and emotional well-being. It’s wanting to make a difference.

And you can pair your passion with a great foundation of skills and hands-on learning when you graduate from Assiniboine’s CHCA program. Two practicums, an industry-standard lab setting, and additional workshops and training seminars complement the applied skills you’ll learn from those who have worked in the field.

CHCA is offered at both the Victoria Avenue East campus in Brandon, with intakes in September and January, and at our Parkland campus in Dauphin, with an annual intake in January.

New! Beginning September 2022 in Brandon, we are offering students more flexibility on their class schedule. You can choose to apply to our daytime program or opt to take your classes in the afternoons and evenings beginning at 3:30 p.m. or later. All classes run Monday to Friday and not on weekends.

Opportunity for employment abounds in the medical field, especially for skilled workers who know both the hard and soft skills it takes to make a positive difference in someone’s life.
