Ramsey Makes First Commitment to Cougars 2022-23 Hockey Roster

BRANDON, Man. (December 7, 2021) — Virden product, Emma Ramsey, becomes the Cougars women’s hockey team’s first recruit to sign to the 2022-23 roster. The assistant captain of the AAA Westman Wildcats says hockey runs in her family.

“Lots of my family played hockey. My dad played and is a coach—he got me into it, and I fell in love with the game,” said Ramsey.

Ramsey’s strengths lie in her passion for the game, leadership, work ethic, and commitment to her team. She was awarded the Ashley Neufeld Ultimate Teammate Award for both softball and hockey, as well as the Brandon School Division - Acts of Kindness Award.

“Emma brings a strong work ethic and team-first attitude,” said Cougars coach Tony Bertone. “Her skates are always moving—she’s constantly reading and reacting to the play. Her hockey IQ will be a great asset to the Cougars, playing on all special teams.”

When asked why she chose the college to continue her post-secondary academic and athletic career she said, “I like that ACC is a smaller school and has a personal, welcoming feel. I’ve heard great things about the program, players, coaches and school. I look forward to being part of a new team and playing hockey at a high level.”

The soon-to-be graduate of Virden Collegiate Institute has maintained honour roll status and plans to take the college’s Social Service Worker program.

“I am interested in working with children/youth in a counselling role,” said Ramsey. Bridging hockey and helping youth, she’s spent time volunteering with the Virden Oil Capitals Hockey School and with Y Revolution.
