Schwalm & Erickson Join Cougar Women's Volleyball 2019-20 Roster

Rayna Schwalm of Virden, Manitoba and Kendra Erickson of Onanole, Maniotba have committed to the Cougar women's volleyball team for next season.

The Assiniboine Community College women’s volleyball team has its first commitments for the 2019-20 season. Rayna Schwalm of Virden, Man., and Kendra Erickson of Onanole, Man. will be joining the Cougars in the fall.

Schwalm played volleyball throughout high school at Virden Collegiate Institute and for the Cats Volleyball Club as a 5’9 middle blocker. She is a multisport athlete having been involved with figure skating, basketball, baseball and swimming.

“I can’t wait to get started in the fall,” said Schwalm. “There are a lot of familiar faces on the Cougars team and I can’t wait to play with everyone again.”

Coach Maxwell identified Schwalm during club and was impressed with what she brought to the college’s ID camp last summer.

“One of Rayna’s strengths is a strong float serve which fits well with our program’s emphasis on tough serving,” said Maxwell.

Erickson is a 5’8 outside hitter that played for the Westman Volleyball Club and Erickson Collegiate. She was recently named an All-Star at the Manitoba High School Athletic Association ‘A’ provincials and received an honourable mention in 2018 for the Manitoba graduating All-Star Team.

“I’m excited to be a part of the Cougars,” said Erickson. “I’m looking forward to playing the game at a higher intensity, which will help me improve as a volleyball player.”

“Kendra comes from a strong high school program and has developed solid fundamental skills,” said Maxwell. “She has the ability to hit a variety of shots and is a strong passer, which is essential for an outside hitter.”

Schwalm will be taking the colleges Early Childhood Education program and Erickson will be taking the colleges Business Administration program in the fall.
