Shotbolt Signs with Cougars Volleyball

The Cougars Women’s Volleyball program have signed another Brandon local, Jenaya Shotbolt for the 2021-22 season.

Shotbolt, a 5’9” middle graduate from Crocus Plains is currently a member of the Cougars Volleyball Club program. She along with many others, is hopeful for a club season to come out of the newest restrictions lifting before the September start.

“Last year before club volleyball was cancelled due to the pandemic, I played for Cougars club, coached by John McLeod. Even though it was a shortened season, I found his positive coaching style and his desire to constantly help his players improve really helped me become a better player and person” said Shotbolt.

“I’m really looking forward to working with him and Jeff Maxwell again, and learning how to improve my play”.

Shotbolt grew up watching her older sisters on the court and the love for the game was amplified by Mrs. Thompson as she entered into Grade 6. “She taught me the basics of the sport and I knew that I definitely liked this game,” commented Shotbolt.

This grew into joining a club team a few years later that aided in the improvement and growth in her game.

Cougars Head Coach, Jeff Maxwell valued the time that Shotbolt put in through the club season. “We are excited to see players come through our club program and play for our college team,” said Maxwell.

“Recruiting an athletic middle was a priority for us and we feel Jenaya fits that need.”

The decision to join the Cougars was largely in part to the club coaching staff and the easy transition to the college team. “I am really looking forward to meeting all my new teammates and getting to know them better.” said Shotbolt.

“I understand that I don’t know everything and there is always room to improve”.

Off the court, Shotbolt has spent her time volunteering on the holidays with delivering hampers to families in need as well as lending her time to the Westman and Area Traditional Christmas Dinner.

Jenaya has been accepted into the Comprehensive Health Care Aide Program at Assiniboine Community College for the 2021-22 academic year. This is a step towards her end goal of becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse by learning the relevant terminology and experience working in the hospital environment.
