Sisters Reflections of the Legacy of Care, Courage and Compassion Exhibit

From September 19th to 29th Assiniboine Community College’s (ACC) Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts will be hosting an exhibit entitled Sisters Reflections –of the Legacy of Care, Courage and Compassion project led by the Catholic Health Association of Manitoba (CHAM).

“Every day, Manitobans reap the benefits of the many works of the Catholic Sisters who, since 1844, have contributed immensely to the health, education, and social service systems throughout the province of Manitoba. CHAM has therefore taken the initiative to celebrate, and honor the sisters through its Legacy project which started on International Women’s Day in March 2015,” stated Wilmar Chopyk, Executive Director of CHAM.

Sisters Reflections is one component of the Legacy project. It’s a synopsis of letters written by over 100 Sisters who have graciously shared their personal stories as they reflect back to their youth and lives. An exhibit showcasing these letters in a fashion that will capture people’s attention, has been traveling throughout Manitoba since September 2015. ACC’s Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts (MICA), located on 1st street in Brandon, has been selected for the exhibit due to its history as the former Brandon Mental Health Centre (BMHC) where many Sisters dedicated their lives to helping those with health and mental illness issues. The MICA building was the nurses’ residence for BMHC.

We invite you to visit this exhibit as well as www.sisterslegacy.ca to read the letters the Sisters have written. The binder of letters can also be viewed in a small exhibit at St. Augustine Church in Brandon until September 29th.

The exhibit hours at MICA is open for viewing until September 29th, during the following hours:

September 19, 20: 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

September 21, 23: 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
