Unique bridging program helps newcomers receive Red Seal certification

Newcomers to Canada with experience in specific transportation trades backgrounds will now have the opportunity to enrol in a trades bridging program offered by ACC.

The Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Truck and Transport Mechanic Bridging program will assess students based on their previous work experience and allow them to take only courses needed to order to prepare for a Red Seal examination. The program also incorporates English language training and workplace socialization, providing valuable Canadian context.

“This bridging program is intended for individuals who already have years of industry experience in their previous countries, but who require additional tools and education to help them become certified trades professionals here in Manitoba,” said Curt Shoultz, Dean of Trades and Technology at ACC. “We assess students individually, creating a custom education plan in either Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Truck and Transport Mechanic specializations.”

The program will run out of ACC’s modern and well-equipped Len Evans Centre for Trades and Technology (LECTT), exposing students to the most current technology and providing practical trades experience. Successful students who qualify to write a Red Seal examination through Apprenticeship Manitoba will become certified Journeypersons in their trade.

The program begins this June and applications are now being accepted. ACC will hold free information sessions for applicants who wish to learn more. Those interested in attending can call 204.725.8700 ext 6070.
