Building Costa Rica
Assiniboine International and the School of Trades are partnering with Global Learning Programs to offer a 9-day program in Costa Rica for students in any of our trades programs, scheduled for March 1–9, 2025.
This is a group study trip where students will travel together with other students and faculty.
We are hosting online information sessions in September. To register for any of these sessions (you only need to attend one), please click on the corresponding date below:

Nursing in Costa Rica
Assiniboine International and the Nursing Program are collaborating with Universidad Hispanoamericana to provide an 11-day nursing program in Costa Rica. During this program, students in our Practical Nursing program will engage in hands-on practice within a rural community. The program is set to take place July 8–18, 2025.

Tasty Italia
Assiniboine International and the Russ Edwards School of Agriculture & Environment are teaming up with Centro Studi Italiani to deliver a 13-day Tasty Italia.
This trip offers a jam-packed itinerary including Italian language classes for beginners, teachings about Italy’s culinary heritage and traditions, guided tours where you’ll learn more about the agriculture of Italy and how foods are grown with sustainability in mind, meetings with local culinary experts, food tasting, and more! The program is set to take place May 20 to June 1, 2025.

Last year, students from the Russ Edwards School of Agriculture & Environment traveled to Italy for a 2 weeks program scheduled on May 20 to June 2, 2024. Read the full article.
Eligibility Criteria: How do I know if I'm eligible to participate in a trip?
In order to be eligible for one of these trips, you must:
- Be an active part- or full-time student at Assiniboine with a GPA of at least 2.0 Depending on the Global Experience trip, you may need to be actively enroled in a specific program or academic school.
- Not have any active Level 2, 3, or 4 sanctions under Policy A02 (Student Conduct, Behaviour, and Discipline)
- Confirm that you are able to travel outside of Canada and will acquire or renew the necessary government documentation (e.g., passport, visas depending on your country of citizenship) as well as any necessary immunizations or medications for travel at your own cost.
Assiniboine College reserves the right to cap the number of student participant spaces on a trip. Meeting the eligibility requirements does not ensure you will be selected to participate.
Global Experience Awards: Are there funds to help offset costs of this trip?
Travel abroad experiences that help to build skills and confidence makes for an awesome, rewarding and memorable time spent in college.
Students selected for these trips may also receive a Global Experience Award that covers 25% to 90% of the eligible costs of your trip. You automatically apply for one of these awards when you sign up on the interest list for any of these experiences online.
Students groups who are traditionally under-represented in study abroad opportunities are a target audience and eligible for higher award amounts (of up to 90% of eligible costs):
- First Nations, Métis and Inuit students - Indigenous student may be required to provide identification or documentation to our Indigenous Affairs team
- Students with a disability - disclosure of a specific disability may not be required; however, documentation must be on file with Accessibility and Disabilities Services at the college. Refer to policy A03 for a definition of what documentation in this context means.
- Low income students - students who are in receipt of non-repayable student financial assistance from the province, federal government, or receives financial sponsorship on the basis of income
College staff will inform you of the total cost of the trip and any Global Experience Award amount you will be given before you make a final decision on whether or not to participate.
