Program Overview:

St.Amant Respite and Family Support Services offers out of home respite options for families with children who have significant disability-related care needs and who do not have the necessary resources to implement a self-managed respite plan and who may require a longer break than other supports can provide.

The 24 hour shift staffed home provides planned and regular out of home respite for children & youth ages 10 – 17 years who are not in care and are living with intellectual or developmental disabilities and/or Autism. This comprehensive service also provides enhanced support to families and their children which may include occupational therapy, behavioral supports training and counselling, with the goal of strengthening families’ abilities to continue to parent their children at home.

Position Summary:

A Senior Treatment Staff, Community Respite Services within Community Services is responsible for providing care and support to people with disabilities while working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. The Senior Treatment Staff, Community Respite Services provides services in accordance with the Mission and Values of the organization and provincial legislation and regulations. The Senior Treatment Staff, Community Respite Services provides a role model for Treatment Staff while providing services in a way that:

Optimizes the person’s dignity, self-determination, and attainment of personal outcomes
Maximizes normal environmental and lifestyle features utilizing social role valorization (SRV)concepts
Incorporates high-quality health care, support and treatment
Ensures that necessary administrative tasks that support best practice support are completed
Facilitates education, training, and work opportunities
The Senior Treatment Staff, Community Respite Services provides essential support and direction to Treatment Staff, Community Respite Services in the absence of the Team Leader. Under the direction of the clinical staff, the Senior Treatment Staff, Community Respite Services is responsible to provide specialized services to people within the assigned service areas including implementation of treatment procedures and programs using direct, mediated or consultative models of service delivery. These services are provided through intense collaboration with others within an interdisciplinary team model.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Client Care Management:

Consistent with the Mission, Philosophy and Policies of St.Amant, the Senior Treatment Staff, Community Respite Services is responsible for the provision of residential and support services within assigned residences or service areas. Priority is given to implementing treatment plans that are determined by an interdisciplinary team. Quality services are evident when professional communication, timeliness, accuracy, ethical awareness / sensitivity, confidentiality are consistently demonstrated as required by legislation and program/service standards.

Duties include:

Provides personal care and supports directly to the person (with as much involvement from the person) in the area of daily living skills, personal hygiene, grocery shopping, meal planning and preparation, household management, financial management, social responsibility, problem solving skills, and health care/wellness
Participates actively in the development, daily implementation of, and collecting data pertaining to the Daily Activity Schedules (DAS) of people supported
Participates in development of Behavioural Tracking (BT) data sheets and in collection of BT data
Conducts assigned assessments and implement developmental training and psychological/ behavioural treatment programs to increase adaptive behaviour and decrease maladaptive behaviour
Carries out behavioral, crisis, life-skill, recreational/leisure, work experience, experiential, educational, program as assigned
Records and reports relevant information related to all life areas according to Program policy and individualized needs
Liaises with external agencies, school/day programs and community resources in accordance with treatment plan
Employs principles of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention in identifying and intervening in situations of challenging behaviour

As a condition of employment, successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, Adult Abuse Registry Check, a Child Abuse Registry Check and a Prior Contact Check.

As a Condition of Employment, new hires must complete a series of Occupational Health checks. This includes the requirement to confirm immunization or immunity of specific communicable diseases. Qualifications

Educational:

Must possess a Grade XII diploma or G.E.D.
Relevant post-secondary education is an asset (i.e. Community & Disability Support Program)
Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset
Certification in CPR and Emergency First Aid
Self-Assessment Workshop Using the Personal Outcome Measures Certificate preferred
CORE Supervisory Training Certificate preferred
Successful completion of St.Amant training requirements during probationary period
Professional:

Two or more years of experience providing services to people with disabilities or mental health diagnoses in a community setting
Experience supporting children is preferred
Experience working with individuals in crisis and providing behavioral assessment and intervention
Previous experience completing administrative functions
Knowledge of care, education and training of persons with a developmental disability
Knowledge of the structure, regulations, and legislation of Family Services, Child and Family Services, and Residential Care Licensing is an asset
Knowledge of basic cooking, nutrition and household management skills
Knowledge of strategies and services available in the area of behavioral and mental health supports
Personal:

Must understand and support the concept of interdisciplinary teamwork
Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Must function effectively as a team leader and team member
Must have the emotional stability and maturity necessary to serve as a role model regarding cooperative teamwork; effective conflict resolution and process improvement skills
Must have emotional and physical resiliency to work with individuals who may engage in reactive or high-risk behavior
Valid Manitoba Driver’s License in good standing and willingness to transport people supported
