Community Safety Host
Overview
The Community Safety Host will ensure that the downtown branch of the Brandon Public Library remains a positive public space by creating a secure atmosphere and connecting with patrons.
On any given day, the Host may be bringing a patron a cup of coffee, listening to them vent about challenges, giving them directions to the soup kitchen, sharing notes with a security guard, checking that all spaces are clear before the library closes and so on.
Over a course of 10 weeks, the Host will work on Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM at a wage of $20 an hour. They will start as soon as possible, reporting to the Branch Supervisor and Programming/Outreach Librarian.
Responsibilities:
Welcoming patrons to the library.
Engaging patrons in conversation.
Connecting patrons with other social services as needed.
Fostering communication with local social services.
Ensuring that library policies are being appropriately followed.
Doing safety checks of public areas within the library.
Checking that specific doors are locked.
Communicating with local security and police as needed.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Knowledge of social services in the downtown area.
Experience in providing social services or security services.
Lived experience with barriers to financial, mental, physical and social health.
Skills:
Interpersonal communication.
De-escalating confrontation.
Detailed note-taking.
Navigating community resources.
