Crop Field Technician
Overview
ICMS conducts field research projects in crop breeding, agronomy and evaluation of product efficacy for pesticides, inoculants, plant growth regulators, fertilizers, and other agricultural products. Candidate must be able to work independently, and as a team member, to assist in the conduct of small-plot research trials. Operate small farm equipment for land preparation, planting, plot spraying, maintenance and harvest of a range of crops. Data collection for crop quality, weed control, disease control and insect damage. Soil and plant tissue sampling, handling and assessment. Associated record keeping: equipment logbooks, data reporting, data entry.
Qualifications
Students or graduates in any discipline encouraged to apply.
Successful applicants will have a strong appreciation for, and trust in, science, and must be willing to follow Health Canada and PMRA recommended safety/health guidelines for the protection of team members and self.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, excellent attention to detail, organization, and record keeping.
Willing to travel periodically and complete tasks requiring extended work hours when necessary.
Capable of physical tasks such as lifting, carrying a hand-held sprayer, walking in the field and bending.
Valid Driver’s License.
Skills that are an asset but not mandatory: Farm background and/or farm machinery experience, previous research experience and good mechanical aptitude. Half-ton truck and trailer driving experience.
