Accountant

Overview

True North Sports + Entertainment is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team.

The Accountant is responsible for capturing and recording the day-to-day financial functions and activities of the various entities under True North Sports + Entertainment and Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club.

What to be excited for in this role:
• Process invoices and prepare disbursements for certain hockey related expenses. Ensure timely and accurate capture of daily transactions and appropriate authorization from relevant department head.
• Arrange for and manage credit accounts with vendors.
• Oversee all aspects retail accounting transactions including, daily deposits, purchases, performing month end reconciliations to retail subledger and bank reconciliation.
• Performance of monthly and other periodic reconciliations/supporting schedules and journal entries, commensurate with monthly financial statement preparation.
• Prepare departmental reporting to assist other functional areas in managing and controlling financial activity.
• Ensuring compliance with government legislation with regards to taxation including but not limited to Goods and Services Tax, Harmonized Sales Tax and Provincial Sales Tax.
• Oversee and help administer the current expense reporting software and company credit card program.
• Assist with ad-hoc reporting requests.
• Perform other duties as required to support the finance function.

Qualifications

What we need from you:
• 3+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Completed or in pursuit of Professional Accounting Designation
• Problem solving skills and commitment to accuracy, detail, and prudent financial management.
• Proven ability to prioritize competing demands in a diverse and evolving environment.
• Superior skills in the use of pc-based tools, (accounting software and Microsoft Office suite). Experience with Concur considered an asset.
• Solid understanding of the accounting cycle.
• Responsible team member, with capacity to meet objectives and required timelines.
• Varying work volumes throughout the year will require the position to be a self-starter managing routine and non-routine tasks.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and show professionalism and discretion with sensitive materials and data.
Due to the nature of the sports and entertainment industry where indoor public assembly takes place, it is True North’s expectation that all employees must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in a manner approved by Health Canada.
