Dustin Strasser and Tyson Chambers will appear on the Cougar Men’s Soccer roster in 2022.

Strasser and Chambers are both hometown products, from Brandon. They attended Vincent Massey High School, played for the Vikings and the Westman Football Club (WFC).

Together these two won gold with WFC at the Lakewood Soccer Kickstart Tournament. The following year (U14) they won the Westman Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) league and placed second at the WYSA Golden Boy Tournament and Cambrian Challenge Cup. Learning from experience, the team followed up the next season with a league championship and won both the Golden Boy Tournament and Cambrian Challenge Cup. The two played for the Vincent Massey Vikings, but like many others, their athletic careers were cut short due to the pandemic. They are eager to starting playing competitively again in the fall.

Creating memories alongside one another, these two play very different individual games. Strasser is 5’8”, has speed and primarily plays in the striker position.

“Dustin is an experienced player and goal scorer,” said Cougars coach, Chris McLachlan. “We are really looking forward to adding another attack-minded player to our team.”

“I have good ball control and am fast,” said Strasser. “I’m looking forward to playing soccer at a competitive level again. I am grateful for the opportunity to play with the Cougars.”

Chambers is a 5’11” defenseman, skilled at reading the game.

“I’ve always had a ball at my feet… I’ve played soccer since I was five,” said Chambers. “I enjoy the ethnic diversity that soccer attracts, and meeting new people. I’m excited to be reunited with old teammates as well as playing against many of them.”

“Tyson’s work ethic is exceptional and he has a high soccer IQ,” said McLachlan. “He defends well and has excellent speed. He will make our back line much more difficult to play against.”

Strasser received recognition in high school with an award for academics and athletics. He will be taking the college’s Business Administration program with a specialization in Finance in the fall.

Chambers was a four-time honour roll student in high school, also receiving an award of academic excellence each year. He is currently volunteering to design future buildings for the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum and will be taking the Civil Technology program at the college.
