Seasonal Research Assistant

This is a seasonal position from April to November 2023 or April to September 2023.

As a seasonal member of our Research, Development, and Innovation team, you will learn how new crop varieties are developed in Western Canada and gain experience in agronomy and crop breeding as you assist with the field evaluation of experimental varieties and breeding materials. You will also gain practical experience working with farm machinery and driving a truck and trailer.

What you will do:

- Seed cleaning, seed treatment and set-up of seeding envelopes
- Operating small plot field equipment such as tractors and tillage tools
- Driving a truck and trailer to move equipment between sites
- Taking sub-samples in a small plot combine
- Fall land preparation, including application of herbicides and fertilizer
- Equipment calibration and maintenance
- Assisting technicians, agronomists and plant breeders with other duties as required
- Some travel may be required

Qualifications

What you will bring:

- Able to work outdoors
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Small plot field trial experience and/or agricultural or farm experience is an asset but not required
- Mechanical aptitude with farm machinery is an asset but not required
