Truck and Trailer Mechanic

Overview

The Mechanic will work independently and/or in a small team environment repairing and servicing various types of construction and railway equipment. The work will be in both shop and field environments and may require travel away from the home environment for periods of time.

Roles and Responsibilities

*Inspect rail, truck and trailer, diagnose issues, make recommendations as to course of action and repair/recondition as needed
*Maintain, repair, and overhaul truck and trailer and specialized railway equipment
*Test, diagnose, and repair hydraulic systems, electrical systems, magnets, etc.
*Keep accurate records of work performed
*Troubleshoot and maintain electrical system and magnet
*Maintain and care for all work areas, vehicles, and tools used to perform the equipment servicing
*Provide quality customer service and interface with the operations teams when on site
*Promote and guide others to understand the daily requirements to effectively service and maintain equipment, complete Manitoba safety and repair equipment as needed.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

*Ability to organize and prioritize workload
*Understanding of hydraulic valve operation and ability to diagnose issues; ability to read hydraulic schematics
*Ability to lift/push/pull a minimum of fifty (50) pounds, work in confined spaces and manoeuvre in/through/around equipment easily and safely
*Working knowledge of Cummins, Cat, Deere, and 2 & 4 cylinder Detroit engines
*Ability meet Workplace Safety & Health standards
*General computer skills with ability to learn new processes
*Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license, Forklift license, Manitoba Safety Inspection certificate, and the safety and rail certifications required to access various sites
*Ability to work indoors/outdoors in all weather conditions with tolerance to fumes and odors; ability to work in small spaces
*Willingness to do some evening and weekend work and be able to work away from home for periods of time
*Ability to take direction and work with moderate supervision
*Incumbents must provide and maintain their own hand tools

Education & Experience

*Heavy Duty Mechanic training and/or Journeyman certification preferred; consideration will be given to individuals in level 2 or experience working with heavy industrial/construction equipment
*Class 1 driver license with air and forklift license an asset
*MB Safety Inspection certification is an asset
*Experience with welding and fabrication preferred
