Laboratory Technician (Temporary)
Overview
Western Asphalt Products is a family owned and operated producer of high-quality bituminous materials for use in road construction applications. With asphalt emulsion terminals located in Bruderheim, Alberta and Brandon, Manitoba, Western Asphalt Products conducts business throughout Western Canada, Ontario, and the northern United States. Our fully certified AMRL accredited laboratory conducts quality control and third-party testing, as well as the research and development of new products.
Western Asphalt’s Brandon location is seeking qualified candidates to join our team as a Laboratory Technician. This position will be temporary (May – September/October), for the summer season of 2023, opportunity to return for summer 2024. Approximately 40 - 60 hours per week, as some overtime will be required.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Testing of asphalt emulsions and aggregates according to strict standards
- Documentation of testing and trials
- Maintaining MSDS database
- Technical support for manufacturers and clients, as required
- Learning, understanding, and adhering to region specific testing requirements
- Other duties as required
WORK PLACE SAFETY:
- Comply with Western Asphalt and local OH&S regulations
- Increase overall Health, Safety and Environmental awareness through pro-active approaches
- Report all incidents and unsafe behavior
- Identify maintenance required on laboratory equipment and physical structure
Qualifications
SKILLS:
- Efficiency in scheduling, prioritizing, and completion of tasks
- Excellent math skills
- Ability to work independently
- Strong work ethic
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A degree (or working toward) in chemistry or related subject an asset
- Civil construction education or experience an asset
