Child Care Worker Assistant- Summer Student
Overview
The Westman Women’s Shelter is looking for a full time Child Care Worker Assistant for an 8-week term. Are you a student between 15-30 who enjoys working with children and has a clear understanding of the Child Welfare Mandate? We are looking for a responsible individual to work with our Child and Youth program to assist with child care activities, supervision and organization. This position has been funded by Canada’s Summer Jobs, and will be 40 hours a week for 8 weeks, to start June 5th, 2023. The potential exists for the position to be extended to the end of August, dependent on performance and funding availability.
Qualifications
• Student between 15-30 years of age.
• Must have thorough understanding of the issue of violence against women and their children, including types of abuse, the impact of violence on the children and the related historical, societal and power issues.
• Have a positive self-concept.
• Demonstrated ability to work with children of all ages
• To be able to work effectively as a team member and to maintain an open, communicative and supportive working environment.
• Ability to work alone and exercise good judgement in handling the special demands inherent in a crisis facility. (i.e. high client numbers, assessing client priority – crisis line, walk-ins, etc.)
• Excellent inter-personal communication, written and conflict resolution skills
• Excellent computer skills and a willingness to learn new technological tools
• Knowledge of community resources
• Patience, maturity, dependability and flexibility
• Valid driver’s license, First Aid and CPR
• Criminal Record Check
• Child and Adult Abuse Registry Check
