BRANDON, Man. (June 8th , 2023) — Michelle Omand will gear up as a left side for the Cougars women’s volleyball team this fall.

Omand is from Cross Lake, Manitoba and is a proud member of the Pimichikamak Cree Nation. She attended Mikisew High School and competed in many different sports. Standing 5’10”, Omand’s athletic strengths lie in her height, power and reach. Mikisew athletics competes in the Manitoba High School Athletic Association Zone 11, where Omand won a zone title in volleyball, fastball and cross country. She was named the top female badminton player in high school and served as captain of the volleyball team. Omand was an outstanding wrestler, representing Manitoba and competing in the 2018 Canada Games. She won bronze in her weight class in the individual event and won a bronze in the team event as well.

“Michelle comes to us with a strong all-around game,” said Cougars coach Kevin Neufeld. “Once she grasps onto the structure systems, she will be a strong contributor to the team.”

Omand is involved in her community and serves as a youth council member for the Pimichikamak Cree Nation. She also gives back to recreation as a sport organizer.

“I feel happy when I’m playing volleyball,” said Omand. “I can’t wait to start in the fall and am looking forward to meeting new people.”

Omand is a mother and enjoys sharing her love of cooking and baking with her family. She will be taking the college’s Culinary Arts program in the fall.
