Diversification Centres are non-profit, applied research organizations directed by local producers and industry. The province’s four centres conduct applied research and demonstrations on crops, technology and best management practices. Their work advances primary production while supporting sustainable agronomic solutions that benefit local communities and support the growth of agri-food and agri-product processing. Diversification Centres collaborate on projects with several industry groups within the province, collectively extending new agricultural innovations to producers.
Every year, Diversification Centres invite applications for the Summer Student (Research Assistant) positions to assist in agricultural applied research operations. This is an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates to broaden their knowledge of crop production in multiple crops (including cereals, oilseeds, pulses, forages, cover crops, potatoes, etc.) and gain insight into field research methodologies.
Duties:
The Research Assistant provides field operations and technical support to applied crop production and agricultural land management research at Diversification Centres to execute agricultural field crop experiments. Activities include assisting in small plot crop seeding, plot maintenance, data collection, data entry, and harvest.
Qualifications:
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba class 5 driver's license.
• Able to work extended hours during peak periods (growing and harvest seasons).
• Physically capable of working outdoors in various environmental conditions.
• This position is for college/university-level students and recent graduates. However, anyone with an interest in agricultural research operations may apply.
