Arena Ice Technician

Overview

True North Sports + Entertainment is looking for a knowledgeable and dependable individual to join our team at Canada Life Centre.

The Arena Ice Technician will work with a passionate team to ensure all aspects of maintenance and mechanical operations of Canada Life Centre are performing efficiently and effectively, in order to provide a safe, enjoyable, and quality environment to employees and guests.

What to expect in this role:
Installing and maintaining arena ice at an exceptional standard, including flooding and removal by operating various ice maintenance equipment.
Operate and maintain building mechanical equipment including but not limited to: Compressors, pumps (heat, water, and brine), building automation systems, boilers, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
Maintenance and inspection of compressors, motors, lines, condensers, pumps, and chillers for ice plant.
Assist with all issues pertaining to the day-to-day operations of the ammonia ice plant and all other facility mechanical systems including corrective and preventative maintenance.
Personal responsibility and leadership of others in ensuring compliance with facility rules, regulations and procedures regarding safety and safe work procedures.
Liaise between the company and mechanical contractors.
Review and maintain detailed job logs and work orders of all duties and maintenance.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What we need from you:
Valid Manitoba W Class Refrigeration Power Engineer's certificate is a requirement.
Ice operation experience is considered an asset.
2+ years' experience in maintenance at a sports & entertainment facility is an asset.
Hands on and strong knowledge of general maintenance.
Problem solving skills with the ability to respond accordingly in a timely manner.
Good verbal and written communication and skills.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Good organizational and record keeping abilities.
Ability to work well and add value as part of a small team of power engineers working within the much larger team at True North.
Ability to adapt and maintain composure under stressful situations.
Must be flexible and willing to work extended hours, evenings and weekends as required. Must be available for 24-hour facility related emergencies.
Must possess class 5 Manitoba drivers’ license.
