More than 100 ACC grads celebrate in Dauphin today

One hundred and twenty one Assiniboine Community College (ACC) students are celebrating today, having reached a major milestone in their lives.

Students will be surrounded by family, friends and ACC staff as they graduate from the college’s Parkland Campus in Dauphin.

Being a student at ACC’s Parkland Campus was a great experience,” said Students’ Association vice-president for Parkland Angie Moosetail. “You are given opportunities to make connections within the community in the field you are studying. Learning by doing is what the college believes in and it is strongly portrayed throughout your studies, I myself being a hands on learner benefited greatly from this.

ACC President Mark Frison will bring greetings on behalf of the college and be joined by other distinguished guests, including MLA Stan Struthers.

Graduating students represent nine different programs: Applied Building Construction, Applied Counselling Skills, Business Administration, Carpentry and Woodworking, Comprehensive Health Care Aide, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Program Management, Practical Nursing and Mature Student High School.

Forty-three students are set to graduate with distinction or honours.

A total of 34 students will graduate from the Mature Student High School program, up from 22 at last years graduation ceremony.

ACC will be handing out 32 monetary and non-monetary awards totaling $15,000 during the Student Achievement Celebration dinner later in the evening.

The graduation ceremony will take place today at 2 p.m. at the Parkland Recreation Complex (Curling Rink) in Dauphin. The Student Achievement Celebration dinner follows starting at 5:30 p.m.
