Overview
Manitoba Crop Alliance (MCA) is seeking a summer-term, full-time Research and Extension Assistant to join our dynamic team and serve our farmer members who grow wheat, barley, corn, sunflower and flax in the province of Manitoba.
The Research and Extension Assistant is responsible for supporting MCA staff and operations through field, administrative, data-management and event work for all MCA activities, under the supervision of the Research Program Manager - Special Crops.
This role requires a highly motivated individual with a passion for agriculture, strong communication
skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Support MCA's strategic plan, including its vision, mission, and core principles
- Assist MCA's Research Trial Specialist with a variety of MCA operations, including planting, maintenance and data collection for Sunflower Variety Performance Trials and Manitoba Corn Hybrid Performance Trials
- Collaborate with MCA's research and extension team to provide support for extension events, development of fact sheets and extension materials, sample collection for research projects, Research on the Farm program activities and MCA research database management
- Support MCA senior management with special projects as requested.
- Assist Advance Payments Program (APP) staff with various duties
Qualifications
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral
- Student in agriculture or a related discipline.
- Keen interest in learning about agriculture in Manitoba
- Demonstrated eagerness to learn, build relationships and engage in a variety of tasks
- A team player with strong organizational and communication skills
- Valid Manitoba driver's license
