Assiniboine students excel at both provincial and national Skills competitions

Sixteen Assiniboine College students showcased their talent at the 2024 Skills Manitoba competition, winning medals across multiple categories, with six gold medalists advancing to Skills Canada in Québec City. These students demonstrated excellence in fields ranging from Electrical Installation and Automobile Technology to 3D Digital Game Art and IT Network Systems Administration.

From Skills Manitoba, the gold medalists who progressed on to Skills Canada were Nik Ross, Loai Al-Wahabi, Kathryn Nichol, Wade Robbins, Ryanne Gareau, and Chris Obsniuk.

At the national level, Assiniboine students continued their success: Chris Obsniuk earned gold in IT Network Systems Administration, Kathryn Nichol struck gold in 3D Digital Game Art, and Nik Ross secured a bronze medal in Electrical Installation.

“The dedication and skills our students display year after year make us incredibly proud,” said Kevin Poirier, Dean of Trades. “These competitions reinforce the relevance of hands-on learning and industry-standard training at Assiniboine College.”

The Skills Competitions emphasize the growing need for skilled trades professionals in Canada, highlighting the importance of post-secondary education in trades and technology. With skilled worker shortages predicted to exceed 10,000 by 2026.
