Hours/Days/Months: 7.25 Hours/Day, 5 Days/Week, 12 Months/Year
Salary: $40.07/hour to $50.03/hour
Reporting to the Area Superintendent, and working closely with the Finance department, with an operating
budget of approximately $25 million, the Area Administrative Officer will provide financial and business
support to the Area Superintendent with respect to staffing, budgeting, accounting, purchasing and the daily
operation of Area schools and Area Office including all Division owned assets and housing.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Works with the Divisional Finance Department in the annual budget preparation process for the Area
office, schools and associated programs
• Provides comprehensive staffing/budget forecast reporting and analysis to the Area Superintendent,
schools and Divisional Finance personnel as required
• Provides guidance on and approves all area budget expenditures, area staff expense claims, travel
reimbursements and corporate credit card transactions
• Arranges for supplies and furnishings for offices, schools and Divisional Housing in the Area
• Provides guidance and training for school administration with respect to staffing, accounting, and
purchasing requirements
• Prepares and monitors tenancy agreements, conducts housing inspections and advises action on
damage deposits
• Represents the Area on Divisional Health and Safety Committees and addresses concerns raised in
conjunction with Area Maintenance Supervisor
• Coordinates transportation and travel for Area staff as requested
• Assists with projects related to the Area Superintendent’s portfolio as well as Divisional Finance and
Business Operations
Qualifications
Qualifications:
• Diploma in Business Administration (with a major in Accounting) required
• A minimum of three years financial experience in an automated finance environment is required
• Experience with an integrated financial, purchasing, human resources and payroll system
• Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
• Knowledge and experience with FRAME (Financial Reporting and Accounting in Manitoba Education)
would be an asset
• Working knowledge of legislation governing Workplace Safety and Health and Employment Standards
• Knowledge of housing rental management and the Residential Tenancies Act, including Regulations,
would be an asset
• Ability to provide financial guidance in the budgeting process to the Area Superintendent, area staff
and schools
• Ability to analyze monthly financial statements for the Area and schools and identify areas of concern
or opportunity, and perform school audits to ensure compliance with regulations
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, work independently and as a team
member
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s license and the ability to travel, including overnight stays, to Division
communities
