Overview
True North Sports + Entertainment is looking for a motivated and skilled individual to join our team.
As a Building Engineer, you will collaborate with a team that is responsible for ensuring that the mechanical aspects of hockey for all centre perform effectively and efficiently. Additionally, this position will provide a variety of functions and tasks to support the overall operation of the 4-ice pad multiplex.
What to be excited for in this role:
• Conduct inspections on all sites of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems and related equipment including but not limited to water treatment, boilers, heat pumps, exhaust fans, roof top units, air conditioners, etc., on daily/weekly basis and complete appropriate record logs ensuring equipment is maintained in good working order.
• Perform basic and complex preventative maintenance and corrective repair of HVAC and other industrial systems.
• Take daily readings of all major equipment including but not limited to air supply temperatures, water temperatures and pressure readings, etc. document and inspect for irregularities in readings.
• Monitor building security system, fire alarm panel and sprinkler system regularly for proper operation and address any discrepancies.
• Ensure all health, safety and security procedures are adhered to and areas of concern are reported to the appropriate parties in a timely manner.
• Share on-call responsibilities for after-hour emergencies and respond to the site when necessary.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations.
• Utilize basic trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting to ensure building is functioning and presenting well.
• Liaise with and oversee the work performed by outside contractors (landscaping, snow removal, remodeling, HVAC, plumbing, etc.)
• Complete maintenance and repair records as required.
• Respond quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed.
• Provide informal assistance such as technical guidance and/or training to coworkers.
• Supervise and oversee other employees in the Operations department i.e. Operators, Ice Crew, and Housekeepers.
• Provide all necessary customer service to visitors ensuring Superior Patron Experience.
• Perform other duties as required that align with the responsibilities of the role and the needs of the organization.
Qualifications
What we need from you:
• Education of Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Must possess a Manitoba W Class Refrigeration or 5th Class Power Engineer Certificate.
• Class 4 Power Engineer Operator Certificate or greater is considered an asset.
• At least 1 year of experience in general maintenance in a commercial, retail or industrial environment. Experience working in an arena will be considered an asset.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in physical plant operations, HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Fire Alarm, and other related equipment and systems.
• Hands on and strong knowledge of general maintenance.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical blueprints will be considered an asset.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Able to work independently with minimal direction and able to respond quickly and calmly to unexpected situations.
• Effective judgment and decision-making skills.
• Detail oriented and good organizational skills.
• Positive attitude and willingness to work overtime and respond to emergencies.
• Ability to work various shifts / flexible hours, including days, evenings, and weekends as required.
• hockey for all centre is not located on a public transportation route, so a driver’s license and/or reliable transportation is required.
