Position Conditions: This position will be offered in accordance with conditions identified in the Collective Agreement between the City of Brandon and CUPE Local 69. First consideration will be given to current City of Brandon CUPE employees. The City of Brandon reserves the right to underfill this position.

Rate of Pay: $17.30 - $18.40 per hour (2025 Rates)

Closing Date: Open until filled.
This competition will include an interview.

PURPOSE OF POSITION
Under the general direction of the Recreation Hub Programmer, Recreation Leaders are required to lead and oversee the activities of the Recreation Department. Recreation programs and activities promote the wellbeing of the participants in an active, fun & safe environment. The Enhanced Youth Programming will offer free recreation programs, out of Community Centres across Brandon. Activities could include but are not limited to; afterschool youth programs, sport & fitness programs, arts & culture programs, and life skills programs.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Act as City of Brandon representative for participants and instructors of Recreation programs.
• Plan, supervise and participate in program activities under the direction of the Recreation Program Assistant;
• Provide leadership and direction to the participants and show enthusiasm;
• Provide a safe, cooperative, non- judgemental, and enjoyable environment for program participants;
• Adjust program activities to accommodate a variety of group sizes, interests and cultural backgrounds and participant skill levels;
• Complete daily logs and reports:
• Ensure public health guidelines are adhered to at all times;
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Ability to work successfully independently and in a team atmosphere;
• Able to problem-solve, plan and organize daily activities;
• Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment;
• Excellent public relations skills;
• Demonstrated ability to positively communicate and interact with people of all ages;
• Energetic, creative and relates positively with children.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Emergency First Aid/Level C CPR (to be obtained upon hire);
• Successful completion of a Criminal Reference Check including Vulnerable Sector Verification and Child Abuse Registry Check;
• Related experience in recreation, programming, education, instruction, lifetime sports background;
• Previous experience working with children;
• Previous experience working in a diverse setting.
