Municipal Engineering Technologist

Overview

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Working as part of a team within the BMCE Municipal Department
• Works closely with Project Engineer to determine required drawings and specifications for projects
• Reviews rough sketches, drawings, buildings, specifications, and other engineering data
• Performs necessary calculations and assists in the design process to complete projects
• Perform field surveys to gather information for topographical mapping, cross-sections, controls, and rights-of-way for plan and specification preparation
• Assists in the analysis of reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photos on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics
• Utilize AutoCAD Civil3D daily to complete detailed design drawings for small and large design projects as assigned by the Project Engineer
• Collaborates with Project Engineer modifies drawings as necessary
• Prepares design computations and quantity estimates
• Follows budgets and timelines set by Project Manager
• Provides technical support to other staff in area of expertise
• Liaisons with clients, contractors and suppliers as required
• Research project related items as requested by the Project Engineer and report findings
• Visits construction sites to monitor progress and other duties per contract documents
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Clear written and oral communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel
• Demonstrated analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work effectively on a team
• Well-developed time management and personal organizational skills
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
• Valid Driver’s License
Required Education and Experience:
• Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology with specialty in Municipal
• Must have experience or training with Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite software, including AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil3D.
• 3+ years relevant work experience would be an asset.
• Current designation as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or ability to register as such with Certified Technicians & Technologists of Manitoba (CTTAM).
