New office and administration programs set to launch at Peters School of Business
September 10, 2025
The Peters School of Business is announcing a significant refresh of its office administration programming, with the launch of three new certificate programs—Medical Administration, Legal Administration, and Office Professional—all beginning in September 2026. These new certificates replace the school’s former Legal and Medical Administration and Office Management diploma programs and reflect a shift toward a more efficient, hands-on, and industry-aligned education.
“This change is about aligning our programs with the evolving needs of both students and employers,” said Terry Burgess, Dean of the Peters School of Business. “We’ve reimagined the program experience to be more focused, more practical, and ultimately more effective in preparing graduates for today’s workforce.”
The redesigned programs introduce several key improvements that enhance student experience and career readiness, including an accelerated timeline that will get students immersed in their program specialization sooner and allow graduates to enter the workforce six months earlier, fully equipped with the skills and confidence to make an immediate impact.
“From the very first term, students will begin specialized training in their chosen field—whether in medical, legal or office, ensuring a more focused and relevant learning experience from day one. Giving students the opportunity to apply their learning in practical, scenario-based environments that simulate real workplace challenges is key,” said Jana Sproule, Academic Chair for Media and Office Technology programs in the Peters School of Business.
Recognizing the importance of interpersonal and client-facing skills, the renewed programs will also feature enhanced customer service training. Combined with the hands-on delivery, this will help students build the communication, technical expertise, and professionalism that employers consistently value.
“These changes are the result of thoughtful consultation with industry partners and feedback from students,” said Sproule. “Our partnerships with industry leaders have been instrumental in guiding this transformation, helping us identify the skills and competencies that matter most. This collaboration ensures our graduates are not just prepared, they’re in demand.”
Applications are now open for September 2026 for all three programs. For more information visit assiniboine.net/programs.
