Assiniboine nursing sites in Otterburne, Morden and Beausejour to welcome new classes in 2026-27
September 11, 2025
Assiniboine College is announcing three rural rotating Practical Nursing sites in Otterburne (September 2026), Morden (January 2027), and Beausejour (January 2027), each with the capacity for 25 students, to help address the growing demand for healthcare professionals across Manitoba.
“Rural rotating nursing sites provide a great opportunity for students to train for a career in nursing while staying close to home,” said Mark Frison, President of Assiniboine College. “Rural rotating sites are essential to ensuring there are enough trained nurses to keep up with demand in all regions of Manitoba. The partnerships we’ve built with local communities and institutions are key to making this possible, and we’re thrilled to be returning to these communities to continue to support their need for trained nurses.”
Practical Nursing is Assiniboine’s single largest program, with more than 1500 graduates in the last 10 years. Training at rural rotating sites is supported by the Province of Manitoba and continues Assiniboine’s essential role as a leader in nursing education.
“Our government is committed to ensuring that all Manitobans, no matter where they live, have access to high-quality post-secondary education and training,” said Renée Cable, Minister of Advanced Education and Training for the Province of Manitoba. “These rural rotating training sites are a vital piece of addressing the province’s workforce needs and supporting better health outcomes in rural communities.”
These program offerings add to the rural rotating sites in Steinbach (September 2025) and Neepawa (January 2027) announced earlier this year alongside permanent Practical Nursing programs in Brandon, Winnipeg, Dauphin, and Portage la Prairie.
“We are thrilled to bring these opportunities to health regions across Manitoba,” said Jodee Cobb-Adair, Associate Dean of Nursing at Assiniboine. “Our rural rotating model allows us to be flexible and responsive to regional needs, while maintaining the high standards of nursing education that Assiniboine is known for.”
The demand for Assiniboine nursing graduates continues to be high; 99 per cent of practical nursing graduates surveyed from the 2023-24 academic year said they had jobs in their field of study, with 19 per cent of nursing grads identifying as First Nations, Métis and Inuit.
