The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Research and Policy Analyst position within our Languages Unit located at 200 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB. The Research and Policy Analyst will be responsible for researching, reviewing, and implementing policies and legislation related to the preservation and promotion of Michif and French Languages. The incumbent will also be responsible for preparing funding applications, developing internal documents such as contracts, and analyzing data to produce reports that support the Manitoba Métis Federation’s goals and objectives.
Qualifications
Job Duties/Competencies:
• Collect and review data through interviews, surveys, and other data collection procedures;
• Use a variety of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed research methods to conduct analyses;
• Develop strategic frameworks for research and policy development for Michif and French languages;
• Develop funding applications and guidelines as well as contracts with external partners to ensure they align with copyright legislation as well as MMF and Federal Government policies;
• Prepare and present reports, position papers, letters of interest, and submissions for review;
• Prepare proposals, literature reviews, and data analyses based on extensive research and analysis;
• Engage legal professionals and public policy experts to interpret the current legislation, reporting process, and policy implications to the Red River Métis community.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with several years of experience in research, policy, and program development;
• Demonstrated experience working in the public sector, conducting research, analyzing data, and preparing reports, literature reviews, evaluations, and other written materials;
• Experience developing and implementing policy strategies, frameworks, and related documents;
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, writing, and analytical skills;
• Strong organizational and time management abilities;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint;
• Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
• Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
• Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
• Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
