Position Conditions: This is a temporary summer position, 40 hours per week. This position will be offered in accordance with conditions identified in the Collective Agreement between the City of Brandon and CUPE Local 69.
The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
Rate of Pay: $17.78 (2026 Rates)
Closing Date: 11:59pm on May 1, 2026
This competition will include testing and an interview.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Are you looking to gain valuable work experience throughout the summer? The Utility Maintenance Summer Student offers exposure to various technologies and industry insights that few other summer jobs can.
The Utility Maintenance Summer Student reports to the Utility Maintenance Chargehand. The incumbent will review and input equipment asset data into our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). The student will work alongside with the Utility Maintenance Chargehand to make the City’s CMMS system as efficient as possible for the Utilities Department.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Audit systems and equipment within the Water and Wastewater Treatment facilities;
• Record information that is stamped on the asset tag (HP, Voltage, Serial Number, Model Number, etc.) on pumps, motors, VFDs, etc;
• Photograph equipment assets for the CMMS;
• Input recorded data into Llumin software, the City’s current CMMS Program;
• Add new equipment assets and associated detailed information not yet identified in Llumin software based on an Asset ID;
• Take inventory of parts in storage for additional input in CMMS. Spare parts will then be tagged to the assets in Llumin;
• Upload drawings and pictures of assets in the CMMS.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Grade 12, G.E.D., or Mature High School Diploma
• Must hold and maintain a Class 5 Province of Manitoba Driver’s license;
• Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution or apprenticeship program in a trade or engineering-related program;
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making ability;
• Ability to work independently;
• Demonstrated willingness to learn;
• Experience in water, wastewater and/or working in an industrial setting considered an asset;
• Experience working with a CMMS program considered an asset;
• Demonstrated understanding of various mechanical systems, processes and equipment operation;
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills to identify equipment on technical drawings;
• Must be willing to work in a variety of environments with a wide range of adverse conditions including obnoxious odours, loud noises or high humidity;
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with a variety of work activities.
WORK CONDITIONS
The Utility Maintenance Summer Student works independently and in a team environment.
