Overview

Job Description:
Assumes full responsibility for the preschool’s operation in the absence of the director. 
-Works in partnership with the Director on program planning, weekly themes, craft prep and rotating learning centers.   
-Has 11- 12.5 hours of prep time.  This includes Mon AM prep, shopping, home prep, changing up the room each week with new equipment, toys and activities, curriculum planning, Friday Clean, etc.
- Plans and implements 4 Circle Times each week.
-Is responsible for craft prep (shopping, cutting, etc.) the director assists when needed.
-Assists in planning and implementing Dramatic Play Center 
-Organizing the Scholastic Book Orders program, placing and distributing orders.
-Assists in Evaluation of children progress and assists Director in completing yearly progress reports
- Attends and assists with parent teacher interviews 
-Works with the director in the summer to assist with cleaning/organizing, prepping for the Fall classes, ensuring we are prepared for licencing inspection, student files and documents/policy revision, etc. Gets paid 3 work weeks in the Summer
-Assists with communication and general information about the preschool via phone/letter/e-mail  
-Attends monthly board meetings
-May be assigned to work with children that require additional support
-Assists with the application process for ISP funding. This is includes assisting the Director with completing the ISP Eligibility Application and Planning Service Request Form.
-Assists in the Individual Program Planning of special needs students.  This includes creating plans (IPP) and writing reports for meetings with specialists  
-Assists inclusion staff with special needs students, their goals, and care 
- Shops for and purchases supplies 
-Assists with care and education of all children 
-Consults director  before conveying any information regarding students or incidents 
-Maintains and helps to preserve confidentiality of all students/families present and past 
-Promotes positive PR regarding the preschool in the community
-Assists with fundraising activities and events when needed 
-Checks phone messages and e-mails daily.
-Orders Christmas books form Scholastic book order with bonus points.  
-Orders equipment, toys, and books from Scholastic using bonus points  
-Assists with newsletters  
-Manages safety plan and educates the staff in regards to updates 
-Conducts daily/weekly/and monthly safety checks and keeps records up to date.   
-Prints and updates monthly attendance
-Completes monthly facility reports
-Helps promote and advertise the preschool at various events along with the director when necessary. 
-Assists with the planning and attends all Open Houses.  
- Attends PD workshops when available and the preschool can afford to pay for the courses to ensure skills and knowledge are kept up to date. 
-Is responsible for daily sanitizing tasks, such as cleaning and spraying of all hard surfaces. The staff work together on these tasks, but the Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring it is completed.
-Duties such as moving furniture, carpets, and changing/diapering children may involve heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds)
-Assists the Director with other general tasks, when necessary, such as attending meetings with parents, annual licencing tasks, meetings with our landlords, etc.

Qualifications

Start Date: August 17 2026.
Hours: 33.5- 35 hours per week
Holidays: 3 weeks holidays per year (2 weeks at Christmas, 1 week at Spring Break)
Salary: $26.00- $32.00 pending experience and qualifications.
Qualifications:
ECEC II (an asset but not required)
Required: First Aid & CPR Training, Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector, Child Care Assistant Certification.
Required within 3 months of Employment: Commit To Kids Training, Child Care Assistant 40 Hour Course
Conditions: 3-month probationary period after which the contract carries on for an indefinite period.
