Overview
What You Will Do
• Act as café host and ensure that the facilities are clean and ready to receive visitors at all times.
• Operate the POS system and related equipment to take payment (cash, debit, credit card, 1040, etc.). Perform cash out procedures at closing.
• Troubleshoot POS issues and make decisions regarding possible solutions.
• Contribute to the ongoing food inventory by accurately recording when supplies are running low. Place food orders as required.
• Lead team and provide direction as required when Cafe Coordinator is not available.
• Prepare high-quality foods in a consistent and esthetic manner and in accordance with the pre-approved menu for the Café and events catering (including baking)
• Handle food in a manner that is consistent with proper food handling protocols (Follows safety procedures while maintaining sanitary conditions in all work areas.)
• Operate and clean kitchen equipment and appliances Greet and assist café visitors, provide information and respond to enquiries in a professional manner.
• Provide prompt food service (plating food, clearing and wiping tables, washing dishes, etc.)
• Prepare and deliver basic catering for meetings and events.
• Assist with scheduling and menu planning as required.

Qualifications
Requirements
• At least 2 years’ experience working in the food service industry, High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be a certified food handler, with current City of Winnipeg Level 1 Food Handling Certificate (or equivalent).
• Experience using standard kitchen equipment.
• Ability to multi-task and effectively balance competing priorities.
• Experience and knowledge of food preparation/cooking as well as baking.
• Ability to lift heavy dishes and supply loads, up to 35 lbs.
• Rotating shifts are required including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to work under pressure, demanding deadlines and changing priorities and conditions due to catering program specifics.
• Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals (i.e. Dishwasher and rinsing agents, de-greaser and cleaning supplies for equipment and floors)
