Hamiota and Assiniboine College Partner to Bring More Learning Opportunities to Rural Manitoba

Hamiota Municipality is partnering with Assiniboine College to expand access to education and workforce training across the region. Led locally by the Hamiota Economic Development Corporation (HEDC), the partnership will help identify local learning needs and bring more education and training opportunities closer to home.

Hamiota will establish a dedicated learning space at the Hamiota Business HUB, where residents can participate in programs delivered in partnership with Assiniboine College, either virtually or in person. The space will help residents build skills, explore career pathways, and continue their education without having to leave the region.

"This learning space will serve as an anchor for this partnership and help make education more accessible for local learners," said Armi Adair, Economic Development Officer for the Municipality of Hamiota. " We're excited to work with Assiniboine College and our neighbouring communities to better understand local training needs and create opportunities that support residents, employers, and the future growth of our region."

As a first step, the partners have launched an online Training Interest Survey to identify the education and training residents would like to see offered locally. Residents of Hamiota, Birdtail Sioux First Nation, RM of Oakview, Prairie View Municipality, RM of Yellowhead, and RM of Wallace Woodworth are welcome and encouraged to participate. The survey can be found at https://tinyurl.com/hamiota. Responses will be accepted until September 11, 2026.

Survey feedback will help inform future courses, programs, and training delivered through the partnership. By listening to residents and employers, the partners can identify priorities and develop programming that responds to the skills, career, and workforce needs of the area.

The partnership also supports a broader regional vision for strengthening access to education and training throughout western Manitoba. By working with neighbouring communities, Hamiota Municipality and Assiniboine College hope to build a connected network of local learning options that contributes to workforce development and economic growth.
