STEM Summit welcomes 250 high school students to Assiniboine
November 5, 2026
Assiniboine College hosted nearly 250 high school students Thursday at the college’s annual STEM Summit, a significant increase from last year’s event. The day provided students hands-on activities to explore the college’s STEM programs and subsequent career opportunities.
Grade 9 to 12 students from across the province were immersed in programs throughout this field:
- Media & Communications
- Web & Interactive Development
- Digital Art & Design
- Network Administration Technology
- Agribusiness
- Office Administration
- Primary Care Paramedic
- Medical Laboratory Technology
- Combined Laboratory X-Ray Laboratory Technology
- Mechatronics Engineering Technology
“This event gives students a firsthand look at the technologies transforming our world and the opportunities they create,” said Jana Sproule, Director of Student Services at Assiniboine. “From creating engaging digital content and building intelligent systems to developing dynamic web experiences, to exploring the future of automation systems and leading-edge technologies, our programs equip students with practical, in-demand skills for rewarding careers in a rapidly evolving industry.”
Students spent the day moving through hands-on workshop sessions that highlighted a range of STEM disciplines. Along the way, they connected with instructors and current learners, experienced a glimpse of post-secondary life, and discovered how Assiniboine programs can open doors to rewarding careers in Manitoba’s growing technology and innovation sectors.
“Connecting with students early in their education journey, helping them explore their options and learn about the pathways available to them is an important part of what we do,” said Erin Lambert, Manager of Recruitment. “The STEM Summit provides a valuable opportunity to introduce students to STEM careers and show them how Assiniboine can help them turn their interests into rewarding futures.”
True to that mission, events like the STEM Summit further highlight Assiniboine’s position as a leader in technology-related programming. In our most recent Graduate Satisfaction and Employment Survey, it shows that 91 per cent of Assiniboine graduates have jobs within nine months of completing their studies, with 96 per cent remaining in Manitoba after graduation, representing a net population gain for the province.
