Your tasks and responsibilities
We are seeking highly motivated Field Breeding Summer Associate to join our successful team for the Summer of 2021. This position is a 4-month term. The positions will be based in the Brandon area.

From your first day as a Summer Student you will be a contributing member of the team with meaningful responsibilities. Our goal is to provide interesting and challenging work while at the same time have fun and celebrate successes.

This position will provide an opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in agriculture to experience working with world class researchers, agronomists, plant breeders and cutting-edge technology.
Summer Field Breeding Associates will experience the full spectrum of implementing a multi-crop small plot field research program. Including field selection, site and seed preparation, planting, trial maintenance, data collection and harvest.

Key Tasks:
Assisting with trial preparation activities including seed counting, sorting, placement of sample envelopes into planting order and order verification
Assisting with the collection of agronomic data from canola, corn and/or soybean plots throughout the season
Following trial stewardship and/or Regulatory guidelines and policies, as per internal or agency requirements
Safe operation and maintenance of research equipment (tractors, planter, sprayer, plot combine), company vehicles and trailers

Qualifications

A current student pursuing an Associate’s (Diploma), Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree program with focus in Agriculture or Sciences desired
Highly motivated with the ability to work independently
Strong organization, time management and problem-solving skills
Good understanding of agronomic practices
Ability to work long hours as required, and own transportation to research farm
Basic mechanical skills; ability to operate farm machinery
Farm background an asset but not required
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
Willing to obtain Class G endorsement (AB,SK) or Class 3 (MB) or Full G license (ON) - (heavy trailer endorsement)
