Summer Student Research Assistant

The Canada-Manitoba Crop Diversification Centre (CMCDC), in Carberry Manitoba is an Industry-Government partnership applied research centre. The centre collaborates on projects with many industry groups within the province, collectively extending new innovations in agriculture to producers. This is an excellent opportunity for any student looking to broaden their knowledge of crop production in multiple crops (including potatoes, industrial hemp, sunflowers, soybeans, corn); gain insight into field research methodologies and expand their network of contacts at the same time.

CMCDC is seeking a summer student to conduct hands-on applied research as part of a team that establishes research plots, applies fertilizer, plants, weeds, scouts for disease and assists in data collection in Carberry, Manitoba from May 3 – September 3, 2021. This is a full-time seasonal position with the possibility of extension, full- or part-time, into fall to assist with harvest and data processing.

Students should be self-motivated, organized individuals who have demonstrated problem solving skills, attention to detail, like working outdoors, and can work independently. Applicants must have a valid Class 5 Manitoba driver’s license.

Employment will be with the Manitoba Horticultural Productivity Enhancement Centre, Inc (MHPEC). MHPEC is a conglomerate of McCain’s Food, Simplot Canada, and Keystone Potato Producers Association. Further information on MHPEC can be found at mbpotatoresearch.ca.
