Corrales Brings Offence to the Field

Astrid Daniela Corrales Pena will pose an offensive threat for rivals of the Cougar women’s soccer team.

Corrales, originally from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, came to Canada with her family in the summer of 2011. Corrales graduated from Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School in 2020 where she competed with the Plainsmen soccer team until their final season was cancelled due to COVID-19. Starting out in defence with the Plainsmen, Corrales worked hard to improve her skill and transitioned into a forward/striker position. During her three seasons with the Plainsmen, she received a bronze medal and certificate of achievement for outstanding athletics in soccer.

“I am physically strong, have good vision and agility on the field,” said Corrales. “I work hard to get better each time I play and am looking forward to playing with new teammates and against other competitive teams.”

Corrales stands just 5’0 tall but she is a strong, fast and skilled forward. She grew up around the sport, playing and watching soccer with her Dad and brother. Her Dad was a referee and Coach in Honduras and trained the siblings from a young age. She knew that after high school she wanted to continue to play competitively.

“Dani is a team player and a strong addition to our offence,” said co-coach Gerry Rocan. “She has deceptive speed and anticipates and capitalizes on scoring opportunities.”

Currently working at Sabor Latino as a waitress, her interest in the industry has been sparked. She’s interested in learning about hosting events and restaurant management, Corrales will be taking the college’s Hotel & Restaurant Management course in the fall.
