Emergency Medical Responder
Overview
Assiniboine anticipates offering a 6-week Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) program that prepares students to deliver immediate, life-saving care at the scene of an emergency. EMRs are often the first healthcare professionals to arrive, playing a vital role in stabilizing patients and supporting safe transport to medical facilities. This short, intensive program is ideal for those looking to enter the paramedic field quickly or prepare for further study.
The EMR program is expected to focus on non-invasive emergency care, including CPR, oxygen administration, bleeding control, and basic patient assessment. Students will build foundational skills in basic life support (BLS), trauma management, and safe patient handling. Graduates may pursue employment in support roles on first response teams, industrial worksites, and in rural or remote communities, or use this program as a stepping stone into the anticipated Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) program.
