English for Academic Purposes
Overview
Prepare for college with our English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program!
EAP is multi-level class for IELTS levels 5.0-6.5, which offers you English language training to meet English language proficiency requirements. Our EAP classes, taught by TESOL trained instructors, provide training across all language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. In EAP you will also learn skills for academic success and develop an orientation to Canadian culture.

Admissions
Admission Requirements
English is the language of instruction at Assiniboine. All applicants educated outside of Canada or in a country not on the test exempt list are expected to meet the English language proficiency requirements. Minimum IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent is acceptable for this program.
Depending on your starting level, you may need to enrol in more than one term to achieve an IELTS score of 6.5, which is the admission requirement for most of our academic programs.

Simply check the box that says "Yes, I want to apply to EAP (English for Academic Purposes)" on the Program Intent page of the online application. Note: You do not have to apply for a college program when you apply to EAP. You can simply apply to EAP only.

Connections
English for Academic Purposes at Assiniboine is a pathway to further education and future employment. Students are able to apply for EAP and may receive conditional acceptance to a college program of their choice, if they meet admission requirements and there is room in the program.
Assiniboine has a number of agreements with other colleges, universities and professional organizations, making it possible to apply credit taken at Assiniboine to programs at other institutions. For information on agreements, see Articulation Agreements.
Tools & Supplies
The program allows input into the topics covered in your classes; your needs are our priority. The instructors complete a needs assessment with students throughout the program so that relevant information is covered for each group.
You will be responsible for providing your own binders, pens, paper, and other materials that will assist you in the classroom. Students may also be required to purchase additional textbooks and supplies for this program outside of the estimated course cost per term.
Technology Requirements
All of our programs require the use of a computer with internet access. Some resources may be available on campus. For more details, see At-Home Computing.
Courses & Costs
Costs
Estimated Course Cost per term: $4,695.
Application fee (non-refundable): $200*
*Students may choose to apply to this EAP program the same time they apply to a college program with us, paying only 1 application fee.
Textbooks & Supplies: Students may be required to purchase additional textbooks and supplies for this program outside of the estimated course cost per term.
Mandatory Health Insurance: For international students studying in-person (on campus) or residing in Manitoba during their online studies of this program, mandatory health insurance of approximately $250 is required.
Courses
Course length: 14 weeks.
Schedule: 4.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday.
