Partnerships And Connections

Through community engagement at all levels, Assiniboine strives to celebrate Indigenous cultures, develop stronger ties, improve access to study opportunities and bring learning options directly to those who prefer to learn closer to home.

ACC Days

ACC Day are special events where Assiniboine students and staff engage with a community for a day of sharing and learning. This year, the college partnered with Ebb and Flow First Nation to host an all-day event in the community. Students had the opportunity to see some of the programs that are available at the college, as well as meet current students to hear their experiences. The day capped off with a feast, where graduates shared their stories about attending Assiniboine. Relationship building is important for the success of our students, and ACC Day is one of the ways the college builds relationships with students and their communities.

Community-based Education

In addition to our campus-based programs, Assiniboine serves Indigenous students through community-based training. This allows us to customize our program delivery to suit the needs of learners; it creates flexible, alternative opportunities in communities or central locations. We work with a variety of Indigenous partners throughout the province to deliver programs that range from credential offerings to targeted programs for specific educational and employment purposes. In 2016-17, we were proud to bring programming to 21 communities across the province.

Indigenous Campus Life

This year, Assiniboine and Brandon University collaborated to offer the first annual Indigenous Campus Life day. Grade 8 students from the Brandon School Division and Sioux Valley High School participated in a variety of academic and cultural activities on-campus. Guest speakers were part of the day, and students were able to connect with role models such as Elders, alumni and current students.
